Clara Maass Medical Center will host its annual Cancer Survivors Day on Saturday, June 4, from 12 to 3 p.m. in the rear parking area (Kidde Hall Lot) of the medical center, located at 1 Clara Maass Drive. Clara Maass cancer survivors are invited to attend and bring up to three guests. The day will feature a boardwalk/summer kick-off theme with plenty of food, games, music and fun. Oakeside  will host a new installment of the Music at the Mansion, a concert series highlighting performers from New York City and New Jersey, on Sunday, May 22, at 3 p.m.  Performers will include John J. A trip to see  “Priscilla: Queen of the Desert” on Broadway is set for Sept. 15, beginning with a buffet dinner at Oakeside at 5 p.m. before boarding the bus to New York City. Harrison

Harrison Recreation Cheerleading registration for the 2011 football season is currently being held until June 3 at the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tryouts will be held on June 14 at 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The following divisions are available: Pee wees (grades 2 and 3), juniors (grades 4 to 6) and seniors (grades 7 and 8).

The  #2326 Women’s Social Club of the Harrison/East Newark Elks Lodge will meet on Wednesday, May 18, at the Elks Lodge, 406 Harrison Ave., at 8 p.m. Women, age 25 and over, are invited to attend.

A bus ride to Showboat Casino, Atlantic City, sponsored by the #2326 Women’s Social Club will be held on Sunday, June 26. The bus will leave from the lodge at 10 a.m.

The Lincoln School Drama Club will hold a <strong>cabaret style variety show</strong> fundraiser at 7 p.m., May 20,  at the LCCC in Kearny. Students will be performing songs and skits from shows such as “Grease,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” Wizard of Oz,” “Fame” and “Cinderella.” Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children and includes a three-course dinner, coffee and dessert. The Lyndhurst Health Department will hold its next celiac support group meeting on Wednesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. This group is for people who have been diagnosed with celiac disease (CD), as well as for those who want to learn more about the disease. The guest speaker will be Margaret Weiss Masiello, a registered dietician who specializes in the nutritional needs of people with celiac disease. On Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m., Thomas F. Yezerski, author/illustrator of the new children’s book “Meadowlands”, will present a slide show and talk at the Meadowlands Environment Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst. Copies of the book, about the history of the Meadowlands and its environmental comeback, will be for sale, and Yezerski will be available to sign them. The talk is sponsored by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. The Lyndhurst Library will be hosting “The Flag Raisers of Iwo Jima” on Wednesday, May 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  This is a slide, lecture, and music presentation about the six Marines (one was actually a Navy corpsman) who entered immortality on a windswept island in World War II in the most famous photograph ever taken. A veteran’s ward party will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 2:30 p.m. at Chestnut Hill extended care facility. The party is being held in memory of recently deceased Margaret Sloan, a dedicated member of the Lyndhurst Woman’s Club who served faithfully for many years as liaison to the American Legion rehabilitation programs.
