News from the Nutley PD blotter

NUTLEY –
Burglaries, including another to an auto, apparent identity theft and an incident involving some particularly pesky children were among those reported by Nutley police. The blotter, ending May 19, included:

May 13
At 4:03 p.m., police were called to a Centre St. construction site when the site manager stated there were children throwing rocks at the workers and climbing on the construction equipment. Officers apprehended four juveniles and turned them over to the custody of their parents. Charges are pending.
At 4:45 p.m., a 2008 Volkswagen parked on Franklin Ave. fell victim to a well-hit baseball from within Park Oval. The vehicle’s rear window was shattered.

May 14
At 3 p.m., a motor vehicle accident on Cathedral Ave. resulted in a shoving incident and ultimately the arrest of John Augustine, 62, of Belleville. He was charged with simple assault.
At 4 p.m., a River Road resident reported criminal mischief to auto when he observed black marker on the side door of his 2006 Cadillac. The marking read “Park Closer,” and the victim believed this was a result of his inability to pull deeper into an assigned spot.

May 15
At 3 p.m., a Myrtle Ave resident reported their vehicle burglarized and several items stolen. Police are investigating.

May 16
At 1:40 a.m., a random license plate check revealed that the operator of a 2004 Acura was driving with a suspended license. The officer stopped the vehicle on Friedland Road and reportedly discovered that the driver, Sergio Orama, 26, of Newark, also had warrants out of Plainfield and Clark totaling $1,500. He posted bail and was released.
At 8:30 a.m., a Centre St. business owner discovered that the premises had been burglarized overnight. It appears entry had been gained through a rear window. An undetermined amount of money was taken from the cash register.
At 11:30 a.m.,when her foot reportedly slipped off the brake, a woman attempting to park her 2005 Honda on High St. struck a parked car and crashed through the window of a salon. No one was injured.
At 5:19 p.m., a Centre St. resident reported having received a call from a collection agency seeking more than $6,000. The resident suspected this was a fraud attempt and notified authorities when the caller was able to reveal the victim’s date of birth and Social Security number. Police are investigating.
At 10:57 p.m., police observed a car go through a red light and initiated a traffic stop. Headquarters alerted the officer of an outstanding Belleville warrant for the registered owner, Michael Blackwell, 54, of Fort Lee. He posted bail, was summonsed and released.
At 11:30 p.m., an officer observed a plastic bag being thrown out of the sun roof of a car. The vehicle, as well as the bag, reportedly contained marijuana. The driver, 19-year-old Robert Matturo of Caldwell, was charged with possession of CDS and destruction of evidence.

May 17
At 9:30 a.m., a Raymond Ave. resident reported fraudulent charges on their credit card. The charges originated in Yonkers, N.Y.

May 18
At 4:50 p.m., police responded to a local bank when the manager called about an irate customer. Apparently the customer became enraged when the teller advised them that their rolled coins would have to be opened to be counted. Several threats were allegedly made prior to the customer departing. Police are investigating and charges are pending.

May 19
At 1:22 a.m., police responded to an Oakley Ave. residence in response to a burglary call. The owner had returned home to find the back door open and the home ransacked with undisclosed items taken. Detectives are investigating.
