Bloomfield
Bloomfield Public Library announces the schedule for its Thursday Noon Films program: June 2 – “As Good As It Gets” (Jack Nicholson) (PG-13), June 9 –  “127 Hours” (James Franco) (R), June 16 – “Marty” (Ernest Borgnine) (NR), June 23 – “Unstoppbable” (Denzel Washington) (PG-13) and June 30 – “Like Dandelion Dust” (Cole Hauser) (PG-13). Broadway performer Karen Luschar will perform at the library on Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m., accompanied by Richard Danley on the piano. A seminar regarding Medicare frauds and scams, from the Jewish Family and Vocational Services of Middlesex County, will be held at the library on June 24 at 2 p.m. You might have found an instance of Medicare or Medicaid waste, fraud or abuse if: You are billed for a service that you have not received; you are asked to provide your Medicare or Medicaid number when a service or supply is advertised as “free”; you continue to receive medical supplies when they are no longer necessary; you do not receive necessary medical supplies or treatments ordered (i.e. your prescription is for sixty pills but your vial only contains forty). The library will host a free half hour of jazz on Tuesday, June 14, at 2 p.m.  Vocalist Rhonda Denét will present her interpretations of jazz and popular standards from the ’30s through the ’70s. At the end of the presentation, audience members are encouraged to share stories that may have been sparked by the songs performed.

Kearny
Cecilian Seniors announce a trip to Mt. Airy Casino is scheduled for June 8. The bus will leave at 9:30 a.m. from in front of St. Cecilia’s Church. Those attending must have photo I.D. The library announces free programs for children: Play/story times for preschool age children will continue at the main library, 318 Kearny Ave., on Tuesdays in June from 11 a.m. to noon and on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Branch library, 759 Kearny Ave.,  play/story times for preschool age children will continue on Thursdays in June from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
“One World, Many Stories,” the summer reading challenge, will begin on June 13. Children through grade 5 will receive prizes for finishing the challenge. Pick up a free reading diary in the library’s children’s room from June 13 to July 21. Completed reading diaries must be returned no later than Wednesday, Aug. 18.
The library’s “One World, Many Stories” will officially start at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 13, with a live animal show called “One World, Many Animals.” Wallaby Tales of Warren County will present their traveling zoo in the main library’s lower level. All are welcome, but space is limited. Food or drinks are not permitted at this performance.
Art classes are scheduled at the main library from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on two Wednesdays, June 15 and 29. The library will provide all of the art materials. Children will create art to take home and to decorate the library’s children’s room.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 575 Kearny Ave., will hold a flea market on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Tables are still available at a cost of $15 each or two for $25. Lyndhurst
The library is collecting nonperishable food items for the Lyndhurst Health Department’s Food Pantry. The drop-off box is located inside the library’s rear entrance and it will remain there year-round. For questions regarding the Food Pantry, call the Lyndhurst Health Department at (201) 804-2500.
The Humane Society of Bergen County, 221-223 Stuyvesant Ave., Lyndhurst, has a supply of dry dog food, available to those unable to feed their dog due to unemployment, disability or any financial difficulties. Please stop by or call (201) 896-9300 to pick up a supply of these goods.
The Lyndhurst Health Department will offer assistance with food stamp applications on Wednesday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. A representative from Bergen County Board of Social Services will offer individual support with completing the food stamp applications. The New Jersey Strawberry is the topic for a program Saturday, June 4,  at 1 p.m. at the Meadowlands Environment Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst. Food historian Judith Krall Russo will discuss the folklore and roots of the crop in New Jersey. Enjoy a tasting of fresh strawberries as well as strawberry desserts, jams and tea. $5/person; $4/MEC members.

The Cynthia Sayer Trio  will present a free concert, “The Banjo and All That Jazz,” on Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at the MEC. The second  annual Nutley Irish vs. Nutley UNICO Charity Softball Game will be held Sunday, June 12, at noon at the Nutley High School Oval (enter on Booth Drive).
