Belleville
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22, Belleville- Nutley, will formally dedicate
its building at 612 Mill St., Belleville, in honor of its commander, Joseph T.
Fornarotto, at a ceremony Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m. Fornarotto supervised the completion of the building, which was constructed thanks to a state grant and labor, equipment and supplies donated by union workers and businesses, as well as donated professional services. Lunch will follow the dedication.
Bloomfield
The next meeting of the Bloomfield Public Library Book Club, 90 Broad St., will be on Tuesday, July 5, at 7 p.m. in the conference room. The topic of discussion will be “Outliers: the Story of Success” by Malcolm Gladwell. In this entertaining work, the author asks, “what makes high-achievers different?” High achievement, for everyone from Bill Gates to The Beatles, is not just the result of ability or intelligence. Opportunity and “demographic luck” can be just as crucial. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. The library will be offering a new Chess Club and a Recipe Swap Club. The Chess Club for children will meet Mondays at 2 p.m. this summer. The library now has an adult Chess Club, which will most likely meet on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings during the summer. Don’t play chess? Come and learn or bring your own game and a friend and just enjoy a game night with the community.
The Recipe Swap Club will meet on a weekday afternoon at the library and give local cooks the opportunity to share ideas and recipes. Not a great cook? Come and pick up some tips from local residents.

The Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center, 308 William
St., Harrison, will offer Zumba classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

On Wednesday, June 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission will offer a threehour guided canoe tour of the Saw Mill Creek Wildlife Management Area. Due to the overwhelming response to Mary Lou Mullins’ monthly bus trip to Atlantic City, a 55-passenger bus will be booked for the last Sunday of June, July and August. North Arlington Knights of Columbus announces a bus trip on Monday, July 11, to
Mt. Airy Casino. The initial cost is $30. Upon arrival at the casino you will receive $30 in slot play and a $10 food voucher. The Pen to Prose Writers’ Group will meet on Monday, June 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Nutley Public Library, 93 Booth Drive. The group was formed to read works in-progress, share accomplishments, critique works, give writing instruction and provide encouragement and inspiration to aspiring authors. The group is free and open to the public.

Ravenous Readers, a reading club for third and fourth graders, will meet at the
library on Wednesday, July 13 and 27, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. At each monthly meeting the group will discuss a book, cook or create food and share refreshments. Register at the library’s website nutley.bccls.org and pick up a copy of the book at the front desk. The book is to be decided.
