Breaking news: Nutley PD: Car stolen with pet pup inside

Nutley police are looking for a pet dog that was stolen along with a 2011 black Hyundai Sonata on Monday morning, June 27, at the 7-11 on Passaic Ave. in Nutley. The car was found the next day in Newark, but the dog is still missing.

Police said the owner had left the motor running when she went into the store because she wanted the A/C on for the dog, a 10-year-old white Maltese named Valentino (see photo). When she returned a few moments later, the car was gone – with Valentino inside.

Anyone with information on Valentino’s possible whereabouts is asked to call the Nutley PD at (973) 284-4940.

Nutley Det. Anthony Montanari said the owner is “absolutely heartbroken” over the loss of her pet and police hope the thief does not harm the defenseless animal.

Witnesses reported seeing a black male, approximately 5’7” tall with a thin build and wearing a white T-shirt, jump into the vehicle, which fled north on Passaic Ave.
