KEARNY –
Last week, The Observer reported on the arrest of a 37-year-old Kearny man in connection with a burglary on Forest St. on May 12 or 13 and a break-in attempt on Ivy St. on May 17.
Police believed the accused had a little help from a friend in the Ivy St. incident, and they have now identified a second suspect, Kearny Police Chief John Dowie said.
That individual, Dowie said, is one Jerry Colon, 36, believed to be from Newark.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and police are “actively seeking” him.
In other Kearny police news, on Wednesday night, officers responded to an auto accident on the Belleville Turnpike where a suspect who was being pursued by Belleville cops ran off the road.
The crash occurred at 10:30 p.m.  just east of Schuyler Ave. when the driver, a 28-year-old man, “lost it” on the on the S curve (Dead Man’s Curve). His Toyota Corolla careened off the Pike and into the brush, where it turned onto its side.
Dowie said the man suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention.
The motorist was taken into custody by Kearny P.O. Thomas Sumowski, issued a summons for reckless driving, and turned over to the Belleville PD, which had multiple units on the scene.
Belleville authorities identified him as Edgar Parson of Belleville and said the pursuit began at 10:19 p.m. at Washington and Belleville Aves. after he committed several motor vehicle violations, including running a stop sign.
Parson has been charged in Belleville with DWI and eluding police.
Also on Wednesday night, Officers Dean Gasser and Chris Medina apprehended a 19-year-old Kearny youth after he allegedly broke into a vehicle parked in a yard near Boyd and Chestnut Sts.
The officers spotted the teen on the property just before 11 p.m. He reportedly tried to hide in the bed of a pickup truck and then attempted to run, but he was grabbed as he was climbing a concrete wall.
Police located the owner of the car in which the suspect was originally seen. He did an inventory and reported that some currency was missing from the vehicle, Dowie said.
The suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was charged with burglary, theft, trespassing and underage possession of alcohol. He was being held in the Hudson County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.
On Thursday, at 3:10 p.m., KPD Vice Unit detectives  arrested a 25-year-old Caldwell man in the area of Stewart and Schuyler Aves. after observing him enter a backyard in the area.
When confronted by the officers, the man had what appeared to be a hypodermic needle protruding from his pocket, Dowie said. He was arrested for possession of that needle, an additional one and six bags of heroin marked “ Harlem World.”
