New Yorker nabbed in local drug sales

KEARNY —
Following a monthlong investigation, members of the Kearny Police Department’s Vice Squad have busted a New York City man who allegedly chose this town as the place to do his drug dealing.
The suspect, a 28-year-old who is said to have addresses both in Bergen County and upper Manhattan, was nabbed shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Davis and Oakwood Aves., where he had allegedly driven to meet a customer, police said.
Kearny Police Chief John Dowie said the vice detectives had conducted their investigation on both sides of the Hudson after receiving reports of a vehicle with New York plates dropping off narcotics in Kearny.
On June 10, they followed a suspected buyer, a 38-year-old Kearny man, to Davis and Oakwood, where the alleged dealer’s car pulled up and a transaction apparently took place. When the officers approached the vehicle, the Kearny man was seen throwing a plastic bag back into the car, Dowie said. That bag was believed to contain cocaine, and the driver was holding “a fistful of cash,” Dowie said.
