The KPD gets its man

By Karen Zautyk

KEARNY –
In last week’s Observer, which went to press May 27 because of the Memorial Day holiday, we reported that the Kearny police were on the hunt for a suspect in a recent Ivy St. burglary attempt.
Kearny cops nabbed the man May 28 in Newark.
Police Chief John Dowie reported that KPD Dets. Michael Gonzalez and John Plaugic  had tracked down the suspect, Jerry Colon, 36, of Newark, and took him into custody at 11 a.m. at a Burger King at Broad and Clay Sts. in that city.
At the time of the arrest,  Dowie said, Colon was in possession of jewelry for which he could not account. Kearny police are now working with other PDs to see if that jewelry could be proceeds from a burglary in another jurisdiction.
