What price firefighter training?

As this township struggles to nail down a spending plan for 2012, it has decided to refocus on certain spending patterns within its Fire Department.
On May 16, the Bloomfield Township Council voted to hire Samuel Klein & Co., with offices in Newark and Freehold, “to conduct a forensic accounting of the policies and procedures of the Fire Department,” according to a township press release.
“This report will include the Fire Department’s past practice of the distribution of personal days for services rendered to the town,” the release added.

Township Administrator Yoshi Manale, who issued the release, did not want to elaborate at first but, when pressed, he said that a “preliminary look” indicated that the Fire Department appeared to have logged “an abnormal, excess use of personal days.”
