‘Kentucky Care Needs You’

By Lisa Pezzolla

A whole year has passed and it is that time again. Our friends in Kentucky wait patiently in anticipation of Christmas in October.
Each and every one of you who contributed to the Kentucky Care project over the years I thank from the bottom of my heart for the smiles and love that you helped bring to these wonderful people.
Your aid is appreciated and most definitely needed, and once again, I ask for your help because without you, we cannot do this. A project like this requires communities to join together and help us reach our goal.
Here’s a list of items needed for our Kentucky Care Drive:
1. Non-perishable food: canned goods, soups, spam, corned beef hash, tuna fish, Dinty Moore beef stew, Hungry Jack potatoes, chili, vegetables (peas, corn, carrots, string beans, etc.), peanut  butter, jelly (all varieties), applesauce, macaroni and cheese,  instant hot chocolate mix, honey, Stove Top stuffing, gravy (pork, beef, chicken, turkey, etc.), Rice-A-Roni, Pasta-Roni, oatmeal (regular or Instant), Folgers Coffee Singles or any brand, tea bags.
2. Soft items: sleeping bags, blankets, sheets and pillows, gloves, coats, miscellaneous clothing, shoes and boots, woolen hats, scarves, etc.
3. Hard items: flashlights with batteries, lanterns, heaters, furniture (chairs, tables, etc.), tools (any type), shovels.
4. Miscellaneous items: toys for all ages (all toys must operate and have no missing parts), bicycles (any size), makeup for girls.
5. Hygiene items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash and floss, soap, deodorant, shampoo, combs and brushes.
Anything you can spare is greatly appreciated!
Helpful hints: pairs of shoes should be tied together by their laces; canned goods should not be leaking; no flat tires on bikes.
We begin collecting Thursday, Aug. 16.  We will collect Tuesday and Thursday each week from 2 to 6 p.m. only. In the parking lot of The Observer, you will see the trailer and our volunteers waiting to help you.
Please understand: items must be boxed, so please gather your boxes from local stores in your area.
If you or your club wants to be part of the Kentucky Care project, please contact me at 201-991-1600.
