St. Anthony’s Rosary Altar Society presents Western Square Dance on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 3 to 8 p.m., in the school auditorium, 25 N. 7th St., Belleville. Bloomfield
Rick Larrimore’s Rod Stewart Tribute and The Infernos will perform in concert Thursday, Aug. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Brookdale Park as part of Essex County’s free Summer Music series. Larrimore, a Stewart lookalike/soundalike, and his band perform songs from the disco era to Stewart’s recent American Standards album. The Infernos, known as “America’s #1 Show Band,” have a vast repertoire that includes big band, oldies, Motown and today’s top chart busters.
The Bloomfield Public Library Children’s Department will welcome singers/storytellers Beth and Scott and Friends on Friday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. Beth and Scott will present their program, Singable Stories from Around the World. The songs are based on children’s books, and some are original compositions. The program will be held in the theater below the Children’s Department. Children ages 5 and up are welcome and there is no registration.
The Bloomfield Public Library Children’s Department will welcome Ronald McDonald on Friday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. Ronald’s show is good for all ages and there is no registration required. No food is provided.
The New Jersey Audubon Society will present a free birding hike in Essex County
Brookdale Park, Bellevue Ave., Bloomfield, on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 8:30 a.m. Tour

p.m. Tryouts will be held on Aug. 22 and 23 for all new players at the West Little League Field at Gunnell Oval. All boys and girls, who are 9-years-old prior to May
1, 2011 or turn 13 after May 1, 2011, are eligible to register. A parent or guardian
must register their child and bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate and proof

The First-Sunday-of-the- Month Nature Walk with the NJMC and BCAS will be
held on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. This free two-hour guided nature walk starts outside the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. The group will walk around the square-mile park, looking for migrating shorebirds, butterflies and various egrets and herons. The walk is sponsored by the New Jersey
Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check

The Lyndhurst Library will host a program about the Statue of Liberty on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated 125 years ago, in October 1886, after more than 20 years of planning, fundraising, and construction. Local Historian Kevin Woyce will explain how she was built and what she symbolizes, and introduce some of the people involved in her creation. The program concludes with brief histories of Ellis Island and Liberty State Park. Space is limited and registration is necessary.
