Daylight carjacking in supermarket lot

KEARNY – A woman loading groceries into her van  at the ShopRite on Passaic Ave. was the victim of a carjacking on Saturday, July  30, police reported.
The crime occurred in the busy lot at 5:45 p.m.
Police Chief John Dowie said the 46-year-old Kearny resident had parked at the loading zone and left the van’s motor running as she transferred her purchases from the shopping cart into the vehicle.  As she was busy doing that, a man jumped into the driver’s seat and sped away with the van and her purse, which she had left inside it. He headed south on Passaic, losing or throwing one of the grocery bags onto the roadway as he fled.
