It didn’t take long for the youngsters attending the Kearny High School basketball camp to realize who was really in charge recently, when a handful of youngsters were talking while the guest speaker was holding court.
“I’m so used to having total control in the gym,” Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley said to the 100 or so aspiring basketball players attending the camp. “When I speak, everything stops. You can ask my players. The basketball stops in mid-air when I speak. I’m not used to people talking.”
With that, Hurley commanded complete attention, just like a legendary basketball coach making a rare appearance to speak to Kearny youngsters, although it was the second time this summer that Hurley spoke at a local camp, having visited North Arlington in early July.
