Quick work by the KPD

KEARNY —
Police may have set a record last week in the capture of man who attempted to flee the cops in a reported stolen car: From the initial traffic stop until he was apprehended and cuffed — 2 minutes.
Kearny Police Chief John Dowie said Officer Mike Andrews was on patrol at Johnston and Passaic Aves. at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 2, when he saw a motorist who was not wearing a seatbelt. While following the vehicle up Belgrove Drive, Andrews did a computer check, and the 1996 white Jeep reportedly came back as having been stolen in Jersey City.
The officer pulled the Jeep over and ordered the driver to toss the keys out the window. Instead, Dowie said, the motorist threw the car in drive and headed north on Belgrove.
