The calendar may read only mid-August, but the summer is over for several hundred local high school students.
The days of hanging by the pool or lounging on the beach are gone.
That’s because Monday marked the official opening of high school football practices for the local teams getting ready for the 2011 season.
The season kicks off less than three weeks from now, with the first games slated for the weekend of Sept. 9.
It gives local teams very little time to prepare for the season, but the coaches will make the best of the limited preparation time.
