West Hudson Brave Women Fighting Breast Cancer meets on the last Friday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the East Newark Senior Center, 37 President St. The group will provide an atmosphere of warmth and comfort for patients and family. Trinity Church, 575 Kearny Ave., Kearny, will hold its annual St. Francis Day service and Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 2, at noon.  The service will be bilingual in Spanish and English.  All animals are welcome at the service.  Please have your animal companion leashed or otherwise restrained.  The service will be followed by “Puppy and Kitten Hour” with treats for the animals and refreshments for the people.  Call the church office at 201-991-5894 for more information.
Grace United Methodist Church, 380 Kearny Ave., Kearny, will sponsor a church fair on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will feature Scottish and other baked goods, packaged foods, jams and jellies, book table, Christmas and country craft tables, gift and jewelry tables, plant and pumpkins, toys and white elephant tables. The Rosary Society of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 136 Davis Ave., Kearny, will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the church hall. Kearny High School Class of 71 will have its 40th reunion on Oct. 8 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Newark Airport. The event will include a DJ and hot and cold buffet. Kearny High School PTA is sponsoring a bus trip to the Atlantic City Showboat Casino, Atlantic City, on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Lyndhurst Library is once again collecting coats and clothing for the First Cerebral Palsy Center’s Coat Drive to help the homeless of St. John’s Soup Kitchen through the fall. New and gently used coats for all seasons, fall and winter clothing, and shoes in all sizes from adult to infant are being accepted. Queen of Peace Parish, North Arlington, welcomes all household pets and their owners for the blessing of animals in honor of the feast of St. Francis on Sunday, Oct. 2.
