Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launches National Waterkeeper Alliance Splash Event Series

Waterkeeper Alliance President Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to be a guest speaker this Saturday, Oct. 1 (rain date Oct. 2), at the inaugural Hackensack River Paddle, a 4-mile, noncompetitive paddle from River Barge Park in Carlstadt to Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus to benefit Hackensack Riverkeeper.

Residents of communities along and near the Hackensack are invited to participate in a day of activities to raise funds “to ensure everyone’s right to swimmable, fishable, drinkable water.”

Participants can paddle in the Hackensack or join the festivities in Laurel Hill Park, featuring local food and beverages, live music, an awards ceremony and remarks by clean-water supporters. including Kennedy and Hackensack Riverkeeper Capt. Bill Sheehan.

 Hackensack River Paddle is the first event in the Waterkeeper Alliance national SPLASH series, presented by Toyota in partnership with KEEN.

Paddler check-in at Laurel Hill Park begins at 9:30a.m., followed by welcoming remarks at 11.  At 11:30, paddlers board a shuttle to the event start in Carlstadt, and the paddle will begin at 12:30.

 You can use your own kayak or canoe or rent one from  Hackensack Riverkeeper.  Registration costs $10 for paddlers who supply their own boat; $25 per paddler for participants who rent a kayak, and $20 per paddler for participants who rent a canoe.
