Operation Take Back New Jersey

The Harrison Police Department will host an Operation Take Back New Jersey local collection site as part of the statewide medicine disposal day. The event will take place at Harrison Police Headquarters, 318 Harrison Avenue (rear of the Town Hall) between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. This initiative, open to all residents, was organized to encourage local community residents properly dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine.

This initiative is designed to accomplish two main goals – first and foremost, it generates education and awareness to the issue of prescription and over-the-counter medicine abuse, and secondly, it offers New Jersey residents the opportunity to rid their homes of medicines that are no longer needed.

This statewide effort is being spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey Division (DEA), the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ). Harrison residents looking for information on the abuse of prescription and over-the-counter drugs and local collection location information should visit www.operationtakebacknj.com.

Harrison Police Chief Derek Kearns said “The Harrison Police Department is proud to take part in this effort. The abuse of prescription drugs is a concern for everyone; this type of intervention brings the issue to the forefront, while helping to reduce the availability of substances that could be misused.”
