Clara Maass Medical Center will host its annual Cancer Survivors Day on Saturday, June 2, from 12 to 3 p.m., in the rear parking area (Kidde Hall Lot) of the Medical Center, located at One Clara Maass Drive, Belleville.

According to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, National Cancer Survivors Day® is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada, and other participating countries. Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive.

More than 200 Clara Maass Medical Center cancer survivors, accompanied by family and friends are expected to be in attendance. The day will feature a Summer Olympic theme with plenty of food, games, music and fun.

St. Anthony of Padua Church is having a feast in honor of St. Anthony from June 1 to 3 on Franklin Street, Silver Lake, Belleville. The celebration will take place on Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 3 to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 10 p.m. The event will feature games, a big 50/50 on Sunday and live music by Sandy and The Wanderers on Friday, Jersey Sound on Saturday and Cameos on Sunday. Spiritual events will include: St. Anthony’s Feast Mass on Friday, June 1, at 6 p.m.; Vigil Mass on Saturday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m.; procession on Saturday, June 2, after Mass; Solemn Mass on Sunday, June 3, at noon and a Procession on Sunday, June 3, at 1 p.m.

Bloomfield

The Elks North Central District invites you to compete in a batting competition Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. to noon at Pulaski Park, Mt. Vernon St., in Bloomfield. Free admission and hot dogs and soft drinks will be available. Boys and girls ages 7-16 are invited to join the competition. Harrison

A Tricky Tray fundraiser will be held for Margie Maltese at the Harrison East Newark Elks on June 10 at 2 p.m. The event will include door prizes and raffles. Kearny

St. Stephen’s Seniors will meet on Tuesday, June 5, at 1 p.m. There will be a board meeting at 10:30 a.m. Members are reminded to bring an item for the food pantry. Items needed are: cereal, pasta, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly.

Upcoming trips include Atlantic City – June 27, the Boardwalk Barbeque in Lake Hopatcong on July 11, Hunterdon Hills July 24. Trips require a $10 nonrefundable deposit.

Lyndhurst

The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst, invites the public to view the Transit of Venus at the Commission’s William D. McDowell Observatory on Tuesday, June 5, at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The rare astronomical event occurs when Venus passes directly between the sun and earth. Observers will see a black dot move across the surface of the sun. The next Transit of Venus is not until 2017. This event is celebrated by many historians and artists and serves as a means to measure the distance from the earth to the sun. Event is weather permitting.

North Arlington

The Evening Membership Department of the Woman’s Club of Arlington installed its new officers for the club year 2012-13 at their sixtysixth annual spring banquet held at the Lassoni Restaurant in North Arlington on May 16.

New officers are: Connie Cammann, chairman; Addie Boyd, vice chairman; Jane Mackesy, recording secretary; Kathy Moss, corresponding secretary; Mary Lou Weiss, financial secretary; Elena Nakrosis, membership secretary; Connie Cammann, federation secretary; Barbara Toczko and Mary Lou Weiss, membersat- large.

The reorganization meeting for all officers and board members will be Monday June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Jane Mackesy’s home.

The North Arlington Health Department would like to remind residents that a free, well-baby/child clinic is conducted monthly for infants, pre-schoolers, and school-age children up to the age of 18-years-old.

Immunizations, growth and development evaluation, nutritional assessment, counseling, health education and referrals are provided by a physician and public health nurse free to those children without health insurance coverage.

Video Game Tournament will be held at Nutley Public Library on Friday, June, 1, 8, 15, 22, and on Tuesday, June 5, 12 and 19, at 3 p.m. No registration required.

The library’s Tuesday Evening Knitting Club will meet on June 5 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Come share your love of knitting and crocheting with both beginning and experienced knitters. Meet fellow knitters, brushup on your skills, and learn some new techniques. Please bring your own supplies. This group meets the first Tuesday of every month.
