Police impounded a 1997 Toyota which they stopped on Franklin Ave. at 5:17 p.m. after learning via computer lookup that the vehicle was uninsured. The driver was ticketed.
A Chestnut St. resident called police at 4:52 p.m. after observing an unidentified man filling jugs of water from the house’s side spigot. The man told the resident he needed the water for his overheated car. Before police got there, the man had gone.
Joel Lopez, 32, of Newark, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. after police stopped his vehicle as he was driving along Park Ave. near River Road for an alleged obstructed view and suspended license. Police said Lopez had multiple outstanding warrants. He was released after posting $600 bail.
A River Road resident reported that someone had opened credit card accounts at a prior residence and had charged several thousand dollars.
Someone tossed several hundred plastic forks on a Hudson St. resident’s lawn, police said.
The window of a Nutley resident’s vehicle was damaged while it was parked on Vincent Place. The incident was logged at 4:15 p.m.
Police are investigating the origins of a white powdery substance found spilled on the sidewalk outside Washington Elementary School and which later tested positive for cocaine. Police and fire units responded to the location at 10:34 a.m. after being alerted to the condition.
Nutley P.D. and other local police agencies converged at Hoover and Joralemon Aves. at the Nutley/Belleville border at 9:39 p.m. after Newark P.D. pursuing two individuals suspected of involvement in a shooting had just concluded the search that ended at Exit 150 of the Garden State Parkway. One suspect was caught; the other remained at large and Belleville and Newark P.D. continued the search.
Someone used a fence pole to damage a storm grate in the rear of Nutley High School at 5:29 p.m. Police are investigating.
Occupants of a Stratford Drive residence discovered that their door had been kicked in and their home burglarized during their absence. They reported the incident upon their return home at 4:08 p.m.
A 2009 Honda struck a fire hydrant and came to rest on a Bloomfield residence’s front lawn at 2:34 a.m. Police arrested Hermes Almeida, 42, of Montclair, on a DWI charge. He was booked and released to a friend pending a court appearance.
