Fatal car crash claims Bloomfield teen

A fatal two-car accident took place at Broughton Avenue this past Saturday, Sept. 29, claiming the life of 16-year-old Bloomfield resident Christina Lembo.

According to an official press release by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the accident, involving a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2007 Honda Civic, occurred around 11:10 p.m.

Occupants of both vehicles were transported to local area hospitals. Lembo was transported to “University Hospital in Newark where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The other two occupants of the Honda Civic and the two occupants of the Camaro all suffured non-life threatening injuries,” states the press release.

The accident is being investigated by both the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide and Major Task Force and the Bloomfield Police Department, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.

“No charges have been filed but the incident is currently under investigation,” spokeswoman for Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Katherine Carter said.
