The Hudson County Community College West Hudson Scholarship Committee met this past Thursday, Sept. 27, to discuss and start finalizing plans for their second annual fundraiser, “A Taste of Fall.”
The goal of the West Hudson Scholarship Committee is to continue raising money to provide exceptional local students with scholarships to HCCC.
The scholarship program commenced with an “endowment of $50,000 from the Pioneer Boys and Girls Club of America,” according to HCCC Vice President for Development Joseph Sansone.
“Our mission is to continue providing scholarships to deserving students in the West Hudson area,” he said. “One of the ways we raise money for this is through our fundraiser.”
Though “A Taste of Fall,” which will take place Oct. 25, is dedicated to raising money in order to continue providing scholarships to deserving students and sustain the donation from the Pioneer Boys and Girls Club, the evening will host a multitude of activities, including food, auctions and live entertainment, that will prove to make for a successful event.
“The fundraiser is going to have great food, there’s going to be an auction where students’ art work and photographs will be auctioned off and a Tricky Tray,” Kearny councilwoman and member of the committee Carol Jean Doyle said.
“We’re planning on having live entertainment from local students,” committee chair and former Kearny mayor Kenneth Lindenfelser said.
The entertainment this year? Harrison High School’s The Soundwaves.
This year’s scholarship recipients will also be presented during the grand event.
Doyle also touched upon an extremely vital point as to the importance of the event and the committee.
“This scholarship foundation is a great way for our local students to see the opportunity that is present to a great, quality (higher) education right in our back yard.”
The committee is welcoming of any donation from individuals and sponsorships from businesses as. They are also seeking for materialistic donations in order to create even more baskets to sell at the Tricky Tray portion of the evening.
