Paul J. Brateris

Former Kearny resident Paul J. Brateris, 67, died on Oct. 2 at Tufts Medical, Boston, with many loved ones by his side.

Mr. Brateris was a retired businessman, most recently residing in Westlake Village, Calif. He was a 1962 graduate of Kearny High School and earned a B.A. and M.A. from TCNJ after which he served in the U.S. Navy at the rank of Lt. J.G. Paul has resided in Ringwood, Dublin, Ohio and Stonnington, Conn. Paul was best known for his loving spirit.

He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Peter and brother John. Surviving Paul and held dear to his heart are his companion Bonnie Kroll Delvy, brother Peter Ralph of Lake Como, niece Danielle, nephews Ryan, Daniel and Brian and daughter Susan, mother of his three grandchildren, and son James.

Services will be Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Belmar.

Mary Winifred Lowry

Formerly of Harrison Mary Winifred Lowry (nee Feeney), 81 of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Harrison, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 19, surrounded by her loving family at Akron General Medical Center, Akron. Born in Harrison, on June 14, 1931 she lived in Harrison before moving to Ohio in 2004.

Predeceased by her parents, Winifred M. and John J. Feeney, her husband, Edward, son John Beck, granddaughter, Jamie Beck and her best friend Randal Wise, Mary is survived by her loving children, Deborah (Doug) King of Akron, Ohio, Edward (Missy) Lowry of Orlando, Fla., Jacqueline Newman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sheila (Greg) Kain of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Friends may call Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Walter Marin

 

 

 

Walter Marin, died on Tuesday, Oct.16, in the Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville.

Visitation was held at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, Kearny, on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service was held on Friday at the Casa de Oracion Nueva Canaan Church at 11 a.m.

Walter was born in Ecuador and came to this country in 1966. He has lived in Kearny for the last 40 years.

He earned his B.S. in Business from Montclair State University in 1979 and was employed as a Social Worker for the County of Hudson for 30 years retiring two years ago.

He is survived by his wife Doris (Galvis); children Johnathan and James Marin and one brother Vincent.

Luis Marzabal

Luis Marzabal died on Oct. 15 in St. Michael’s Hospital. He was 58. Born in Arjubin, Lugo, Spain, he lived in Kearny before moving to Rutherford five years ago.

Luis, a retired longshoreman, is survived by his wife Maribel, his children Isabel Guerra, Luis Jr., and Daniel Marzabal. He was the brother of Victorino and Manuel Marzabal and Mercedes Martinez, He is also survived by his grandchildren Rebecca and Raquel.

Dorothy V. Spillane

Loving Mother and Grandmother

Dorothy V. Spillane (nee Adams), 76, of Harrison, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Clara Maass Continuing Care Center, Kearny.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband Lloyd (married 59 years) her loving daughters, Diane Spillane, Debra Mattie and Denise Papa, five grandchildren and one Great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service.

Elizabeth T. (Turnbull) Walker

Elizabeth T. (Turnbull) Walker, age 86, of Lakewood, died on Friday, Oct. 19, at her home.

She was born and raised in Kearny and moved to Lakewood 22 years ago. She was formerly employed for many years as shipping and trucking coordinator with the American Strip Steel Company in Kearny. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Original Leisure Village Health Center and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearny.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, Thomas Hood Walker in 1981. She is survived by her loving sons, Kenneth T. and his wife, Elaine of Tunkhannock, Pa. and Gary K. and his wife, Susan of Brick; five grandchildren, Jeff, Michelle, Tonya, Andrew and Thomas; two great grandchildren, Uriah and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by the Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home, 109 Pier Ave., Brick. A funeral service was held at the funeral home. Interment was private. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105

Viola A. Wruble

Viola A. Wruble ( nee Schmitt), 105 years old, Passed away at Country Arch Care Center, Pittstown, on Oct. 14. Born in Hoboken, in 1907 she lived in Jersey City, Lyndhurst and North Arlington before moving to Kingwood Township in 1989. She will be interred in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington with her husband Joseph who died in 1988.

Viola was also predeceased by her twin sister, Helen Schreckenstein and her son Terrence Joseph who passed on January 10,2012. She is survived by her daughter Mary A Wruble, Ellen C. Maerling and her husband Arthur of Kingwood Township, daughter-in-law Marie Wruble, grandchildren Christopher(Angeline), Tara Civitillo (Vincent) and Jeremy J. Maerling and one great-grandson.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Victories Church in Baptistown , on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. Interment will be 11 a.m. on Thursday. Nov. 1.
