News from Nutley Police blotter

Nov. 8

• Someone stole a chain saw, valued at $350, from its hard carry case in the back of a pickup truck while it was parked on Prospect Avenue, police said. The theft was reported at 5:36 p.m.

• A Grand Avenue resident called police at 11:06 a.m. to say someone tried to enter the rear of the home. Police said the door was locked but was loose with some wood chips missing. Nothing was listed as taken.

• At 6:55 a.m. a Villa Place resident reported the theft of their 2010 Nissan Maxima. Police said the keys were left inside the vehicle.

Nov. 7

• A Mapes Avenue resident called police at 10:41 p.m. to report an attempted burglary to an auto. Police said the resident told them a black SUV stopped near a driveway and a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt exited, walked up a driveway and pulled on the door handle of a Lexus. Failing to open the door, the man went to another Lexus and tried, again unsuccessfully, to open that door. The man returned to the SUV which drove north on Mapes towards High Street. After broadcasting an alert, police said they learned from Bloomfield P.D. that a similar incident had been reported at Bolten Road near Sylvan Road that runs into Darling Avenue in Nutley. Police said a vehicle matching the SUV’s description was reported seen heading north towards Rt. 3.

Nov. 6

• At 10:15 p.m. police got a report that two females in a red Saturn stopped on River Road, got out and walked to a parked car whose front driver’s window they broke with an unknown object. Police contacted the vehicle’s owner about the incident.

• At 1:22 p.m. an Adams Street resident reported that someone had taken a package previously delivered to their home. The resident told police the item was tracked and was delivered but wasn’t at the residence.

• Two motorists called police at 10:41 p.m. and 10:43 p.m., respectively, to report driving through a large pothole on Washington Avenue, damaging two rims and flattening tires on both vehicles.

Nov. 5

• Someone cracked the rear windshield of a vehicle parked on Lovel Court, the vehicle’s owner told police at 7:42 p.m.

• Police said juveniles tried to enter an abandoned house on Ravine Avenue at 3:47 p.m. but ran away after someone yelled at them. A check of the house revealed that the side door was left unlocked but that there was no sign of forced entry. Police secured the residence.

Oct. 30

• At 6:08 p.m. a Franklin Avenue resident reported the theft of a generator being used to provide electricity to the residence. After seeing the generator light go out, the resident went outside to check and noticed that the generator was gone, police said.

Oct. 29

• At 2:46 p.m. police discovered that a tree had fallen onto a Nutley Avenue house, damaging the roof and causing wires to fall. Police safely escorted the resident from the house to stay with family members.

• A River Road resident called police at noon to report that a tree fell from Glotzbach Park onto his vehicle, badly damaging it. Police contacted the township shade tree unit and asked them to remove the tree.

Oct. 28

• Someone cut the wires on a 2002 Honda motorcycle parked on River Road, thereby disabling the bike, the owner reported to police at 10:51 a.m. In a separate incident, reported at 10:36 a.m., a River Road resident told police someone stole their motorcycle, valued at $6,000, from its assigned parking space. The owner said they last saw the bike at p.m. the prior evening and also reported that the ignition and right side of another bike had been damaged. Police are investigating.
