Fire Department probes cause o warehouse fi re

A one-alarm fire at a South Kearny warehouse was quelled quickly last Wednesday.

Kearny Fire Chief Steven Dyl said three fire companies responded to the alarm of fire from Ship to Shore, 123 Pennsylvania Ave., shortly after 10 a.m.

Dyl said the fire started in the kitchen/break room of the facility where a water flow alarm – activated by the in-house water sprinkler system – began sounding.

No employees were believed to be in the space at the time the fire ignited, Dyl said.

Firefighters managed to confine the blaze to that space which sustained fire, smoke and water damage, he said.

No injuries, either to civilians or to any of the 10 firefighters who responded, were reported.

Dyl said the cause of the fire is being investigated by provisional Chief Fire Investigator John Donovan.
