Police said the victim, whose identity was not released, had been driving on Kearny Ave. shortly before 2 p.m. when he apparently suffered a “medical episode,” possibly a stroke or heart attack, and lost control of his vehicle. It knocked down a light pole and traffic signal on the corner and struck two other cars.
The victim was extricated from his car by the Kearny Fire Department and taken to St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, where he was pronounced dead. Police said results of an autopsy were pending.
