A report of a home burglary on Milton Ave. is being investigated by police. The resident called police at 1:43 p.m. to say that someone had taken prescription medications from the home. Police said they found no sign of forced entry.
Dec. 24
A Nutley resident told police someone used her bank ATM card at two different New York locations to withdraw $740 from her account. The card has since been canceled.
At noon, police were called to a Franklin Ave. restaurant where someone had thrown a rock through the front window during the night. Police said a rear window was also shattered. Repairs will cost $3,000, the owner told police. Surveillance footage is being reviewed by detectives.
Dec. 23
At 9:08 p.m. Arthur Verderamo of Nutley turned himself into headquarters in connection with an outstanding warrant from Verona. He was released after posting $350 bail.
Dec. 22
The owner of a 2001 Ford Ranger left the keys in the vehicle when parking it in Municipal Lot 1 on William St. and the vehicle ended up being stolen, police said. The Ranger was recovered on Dec. 26 from a Bloomfield Ave. parking lot, police said.
A Bromley Place resident reported an attempted burglary to her 2013 Dodge overnight. Police said the vehicle’s door handle was damaged but no entry was gained.
Someone broke into a River Road resident’s 2010 Infinity overnight, damaging the door handle and lock, but took nothing from the vehicle, police said. A burglar broke into a 2009 Nissan at a River Road apartment complex overnight and removed a Garmin GPS from the vehicle, police said.
Dec. 19
Detectives are investigating a burglary to a River Road residence reported at 9:53 p.m. The residents told police they had turned the lights off when they left and, upon returning, found them on and the place rummaged through.
Dec. 18
Jeffrey Ravago, 21, of Newark, was arrested on Donna Court at 10:58 p.m. on active warrants from Nutley and Bloomfield. He was released after getting new court dates.
Dec. 17
An Oak St. resident called police at 5:50 a.m. after seeing someone in their driveway on the side of their house. After realizing that the resident was watching, the intruder then fled, the resident told police. Police described the stranger as having a small build and wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.
Dec. 16
At 4:13 p.m. police went to Cathedral Ave. on a report of a burglary to two autos parked in a driveway. Police said the key hole on the driver’s side door of one vehicle was damaged. They said the other vehicle wasn’t damaged but was entered and the thief took credit cards, a driver’s license and cash.
At 9:45 a.m. police were called to Ridge Road by a resident who reported someone had broken the side mirror from their vehicle and had dented the car near the base of the window while it was parked in their driveway overnight.
Dec. 15
At 3:12 a.m., after observing a vehicle traveling east on Park Ave. with its rear hatchback open and items loaded close to the rear bumper, police pulled over the car at Riverside and Kingsland aves. in Lyndhurst. Police said the driver turned into the parking lot of Kings Court gym and, despite police activating a siren, the driver continued to the underground parking area where it came to a stop. After ordering the driver and passengers out of the car, police said they had to hold up the driver to keep him from falling. They said they detected an odor of alcohol on his breath and an odor of suspected burnt marijuana coming from the car’s occupants and vehicle. After finding a glass pipe with marijuana residue in the car’s center console, police said the driver said: “It’s mine!” Police charged the driver, Frank Mc- Carthy, 20, of Fairfield, with DWI and released the passengers. He was later released to a friend.
At 3:06 a.m. police pulled over a vehicle on Rt. 21 for driving at an allegedly excessive rate of speed. Police said the driver, Sean Bridgeforth, 46, of Paterson, said he had no license or ID and gave a false name. Bridgeforth was charged with hindering apprehension and was issued summonses charging him with speeding and driving while suspended. Police also gave the passenger a summons for allowing a suspended driver to drive. Both were then released after being given court dates.
