The Belleville ASA will conduct umpire classes to prepare for the National ASA Softball Test. Classes will meet every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. beginning March 12, at the Belleville Recreation Department, 407 Joralemon St. The test will be given on April 2. Harrison

The Arlington Woman’s Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Arlington Player’s Club, 12 Washington Pl., Kearny. The meeting on March 12 will include a poetry reading. Mayor Alberto Santos invites local residents and business owners to an informational meeting with representatives from FEMA who are knowledgeable about the National Flood Insurance Program and the flood hazard maps along with Kearny Town Council members, the Town Engineer and the Town Administrator. This meeting is intended to review the new flood maps, flood zone designations and the effect these designations may have on property owners in the flood zones.

The meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Kearny Town Hall.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 575 Kearny Ave., Kearny, will hold a flea market and health screening on Saturday, March 9. The health screening by nurses from Clara Maass Hospital between 9 and 11 a.m. Included in the screening will be blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Please do not eat breakfast beforehand. Every person screened will receive a voucher for the flea market snack bar.

The flea market will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a snack bar offering bagels, muffins, croissants at breakfast and hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. It is the goal of the Heartland Institute of Financial Education, a nonprofit organization, to help young Americans obtain a college education. HIFE provides detailed analysis and strategies that help mitigate the high cost of college. Each family is assigned a coach who works directly with the student and parents, assisting them with the college planning, funding and admissions process.

Seton Hall Law’s Investor Advocacy project will present a program on being an educated investor at Kearny Public Library, 318 Kearny Ave., on Tuesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. Come learn about common causes of action, questions to ask your financial advisor and the red flags of investing.

The project is the latest new course offered under the Seton Hall Law Skills Curriculum, which is dedicated to providing students with training in practical lawyering skills.

On Saturday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. the Lyndhurst High School gym will be filled with special needs teens and adults from Special Angels Recreation, the Lyndhurst Police Department and the Cheer Dance Squad SPARKS for an inspirational and amazing game of basketball and half time performance.

The organization hosts this event every year in hopes to raise awareness that special needs children and adults have dreams and they can realize them. Special Angels Recreation has children and adults with many different needs from many towns and counties playing year-round sports and leisure activities and now offers programs seven days a week. Participants will be able to answer that question after investigating movement, protection and feeding simulations that include live animal interaction, tool manipulation and cooperative work. North Arlington

The Senior Harmony Club of North Arlington has also scheduled a five-day, four-night trip to Cape Cod from Sept. 9 to 13. Nutley

A crayon recycling initiative will take place in local area pre-schools in Nutley during the month of March. The Crayon Recycling Drive is being done in recognition of National Crayon Day which is March 31. The drive will take place in participating preschools throughout March and will conclude on April 5.

Crayons collected during the drive will be shipped to Crazy Crayons, a crayon recycling organization in the mid-west. Crayons will be melted down, re-shaped and reused to make special shaped crayons that can generally be found in specialty gift shops. The Township will receive a recycling summary report that will be submitted to the state for recycling credit.

The Department of Parks and Recreation invites Nutley youngsters in grades 2 through 6 to the eighth annual “Great Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt” on Thursday, March 28, at Reinheimer Park, located on Bloomfield Avenue across from the Recreation Annex Building. Children are asked to meet by the playground equipment to begin the festivities.

The egg hunt will begin at dusk. A golden egg will be hidden and the lucky winner will receive a large chocolate filled basket. Parents are encouraged to stay with the children during this event.
