Belleville

A fish fry, hosted by Belleville Elks Lodge 1123, 254 Washington Ave., will be held on Friday, March 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $6 for children’s chicken dinner. The fish fry includes: soup, fish (or chicken) and chip dinner, cole slaw, dessert, water, soda, tea and coffee (cash bar available). All monies raised will benefit a special needs child. Harrison

Harrison East Newark Elks #2326 will have a Good Friday fish fry on March 29 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens. Children under age 5 are admitted free. The event will include a choice of fish (baked or fried) or shrimp. Dinners include French fries or baked potato and cole slaw. The Harrison High School Drama Club will be performing “Once on This Island Jr.” on March 21, 22, and 23 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) at 7 p.m. in the Harrison High School Auditorium.

Kearny

Kearny Public Library, 318 Kearny Ave., will host a homeowner’s seminar on foreclosure/loan modification and short sale, presented by a bank modification specialist, real estate attorney and senior March 27 (English only) and March 28 (Spanish). On Sunday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Kearny UNICO will sponsor its “Spring” Flea Market at the Frank Vincent Marina Area of Kearny Riverbank Park (by Bergen Ave.). Come out and enjoy a day of fresh air. Everyone is welcome.

Kearny UNICO is sponsoring a 50-50 raffle as a fundraiser for its scholarship fund and other charities. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. The raffle will be drawn at 8:30 p.m. at the Chapter’s May 2 meeting at Siena Ristorante (Kearny and Quincy Aves.), Tickets may be obtained from any Kearny UNICO member or by contacting Chapter President Lou Pandolfi at 201-368-2409.

Kearny UNICO is sponsoring a “Flapjack Fundraiser” at Kearny Applebee’s on Saturday, May 4 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each and include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee or tea. Tickets may be purchased from any Kearny UNICO member or by contacting Pandolfi.

The Presbyterian Boys- Girls Club (PBGC), 663 Kearny Ave., is currently signing up players for traveling basketball teams. Teams will consist of grades 5 through 8 and high school. Cost is $100 or whatever you can afford to pay.

A Good Friday Men’s Breakfast will be held on Friday, March 29, at the American Legion Hall, 271 Webster Ave., Lyndhurst from 6:45 to 8:15 a.m. Guest speakers George McGovern, Chaplain for the NY Yankees and NY Giants, and Jerry Palmieri, NY Giants Strength and Conditioning Coach will speak on how matters of faith impact careers and change people. Signs of Spring: Watercolor Painting for kids ages 6 to 12 (accompanied by an adult) will be held at the Meadowlands Environment Center, Two DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst. Kids are invited to celebrate the arrival of the new season by using watercolor pencils to both draw and paint images of DeKorte Park and the signs of spring. Meadowlands Conservation Trust Volunteer Cleanup will be held at Skeetkill Creek Marsh, Pleasantview Terrace, Ridgefield on Saturday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Supplies including trash pickers, gloves and garbage bags will be provided.

The group will be collecting debris along the water’s edge and in the vegetation. There may also be an Eagle Scout trail blazing project taking place that day along with replacement of some of the bird boxes.

A Veterans ward party starting at 2:30 p.m. will be held at Chestnut Hill Extended Care facility, Passaic on Tuesday March 26. North Arlington

The borough will host a paper shredding day on Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the borough hall parking lot on Ridge Road.

Residents are invited to bring any personal documents they no longer need to the shredder, which is on loan through Bergen County Utilities Authority.

The borough will be selling blue, 25 gallon recycling barrels to residents for $10 each on shredder day.

Nutley

Nutley Little Theatre will offer a series of April-June acting classes for adults to emphasize various aspects of scene study at the NLT Barn, 47 Erie Place, Nutley, beginning April 28.

The course will run for eight weeks, through June 23, with sessions running from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays. There will be no class on May 26.

The course will be taught by Kathryn Osborne of the Kathryn Osborne Acting Studio in Montclair. Osborne is a graduate of The University of Texas (BFA) and a member of SAG, AFTRA, and AEA. She has performed in New York and regionally throughout the country in theatre, film, television, voice-overs, and print. Osborne teaches acting at The Adult School of Montclair.

Students in the NLT program must be age 18 or older, attend all classes or notify the instructor of a planned absence. Tuition of $200 may be paid via check to Nutley Little Theatre no later than the initial April 28 class. This course will emphasize scene study for beginning to advanced adult actors. Students will be paired with scene partners for in-depth exploration of selected scripts.

The Friends of Nutley Public Library are sponsoring a book sale on Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Stock up on hardcover books, paperbacks, CDs and DVDs.
