HACKENSACK –

A 40-year-old North Arlington man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sex crime, it was announced May 30 by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said the arrest resulted from an investigation conducted by members of his office’s Special Victims Unit, led by Chief Steven Cucciniello, and the Lyndhurst Police Department under Chief James O’Connor.

According to Molinelli, on May 29 members of the Special Victims Unit and Lyndhurst Police arrested Juan Carlos Collado, of Allan Drive, after learning that he had allegedly inappropriately touched a 13-year-old female acquaintance.

Molinelli said the alleged acts took place about a year ago, in Lyndhurst, when the victim was between ages 11 and 12.

Molinelli said the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency was notified of the allegation the week of May 20 and subsequently contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. The investigation and arrest followed.

Collado, listed as divorced and an employee of a car sales business in Edison, was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both second degree crimes.

Collado was sent to the Bergen County Jail, Hackensack, after bail was set by Judge George Savino at $50,000 with no 10% cash option and no contact with the victim permitted.
