Highlights from the Nutley Police blotter

July 18

The representative of a company that delivered goods valued at more than $4,000 to a local eatery told police that the eatery stopped payment on the items once they were received. Police said the company representative told them they’d made several unsuccessful attempts to make arrangements for payment. Police advised the representative to sign a complaint with the court. The eatery wasn’t identified by police.

July 17

At 10:20 p.m., the owner of a black electric assist bicycle called police to report that someone had removed the bike, valued at $600, from the rear of a business storage area on Franklin Ave.

July 16

At 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of criminal mischief on Ohlson Ave., where the owner of a vehicle told police someone had damaged the rear driver’s side window, causing it to shatter. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the car, police said. At 7:27 a.m., police received a report about property damage on Prospect St. Police said a tree from a neighbor’s property had fallen, broken a fence between the properties, and landed in a pool. July 14 At 6:46 p.m., police responded to Rheinheimer Park on a report about several individuals trying to gain entry to the field house. At the scene, police said they found several juveniles near the building and one rolling a cigarette allegedly containing marijuana. Police transported all the youths to headquarters where their parents were notified to pick them up. A drug charge is pending against the youth with the cigarette, police said. Police said the field house appeared to be secured.

Police are investigating an apparent fraud that was reported at 7:01 p.m. in Yantacaw Park. Police said three youths were approached by a juvenile who solicited money from them with the promise of a truck pulling up with new sneakers. After receiving cash from the trio, the “seller’’ then asked one of them for their cellular phone so he could contact the person with the sneakers but then fled with the money and the phone, police said. However, based on a description of the individual given by the victims, police said they managed to find the suspect, take him into custody and file charges against him. A court date is pending.

At 8:16 a.m., the owners of two homes on Satterthwaite Ave. reported criminal mischief to their properties to police. The owners told police that the landscaping in their front yards had been vandalized, a lamp was smashed, and a sign with the address of one home, along with three shrubs, were ripped out of the ground and scattered around the area.

July 13

At 11:29 a.m., police were called to a Harrison St. business on a shoplifting report. After getting a description of the individual, police said they stopped the suspect on Franklin Ave. and he was found to have the items reported taken in a backpack. Gian Alexis Gesualdo, 33, of Newark, was charged with shoplifting. Police said Gesualdo was also wanted on a warrant from Newark. After he was given a new court date on the warrant and an appearance date on the shoplifting charge, Gesualdo was released.

At 12:56 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on High St. where a car had hit a retaining wall and a tree. Police said they detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver. Kaseem Jenkins, 24, of Montclair, was charged with DWI and was given motor vehicle summonses in connection with the accident, police said.
