Kearny residents: Start your Spring cleaning!

KEARNY–

Shoppers, take note! The immensely popular Annual KUEZ Kearny Town-Wide Yard and Sidewalk Sale switches seasons and moves from the fall to Saturday and Sunday, May 3 & 4 from 9 to 5 p.m. There is no rain date. Kearny is definitely the place to be that weekend when the town is once again transformed into a border-to-border bargain hunter’s paradise.

The Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ) is once again sponsoring and organizing the event. Hundreds of residential, business and other sellers have registered to host sales. Plenty of local KUEZ retailers and eateries are also ready with special sales and offers for what is expected to be a slew of shoppers setting their sights on Kearny.

“Now in its fifth year, the Town-Wide Yard Sale has really taken hold as a Kearny community happening,” said KUEZ coordinator John Peneda. “We always have such positive reaction to the event,” he added. The KUEZ has continuously had both buyers and sellers asking to run the sale in the spring, “so we thought this was the year we would try the sale at this time of year.”

Peneda is confident the event will continue to energize the town and bring new visitors and shoppers to Kearny. “We are also always working on creative new ways our KUEZ member businesses can jump on board, benefit from the sale, and take advantage of the influx of visitors and shoppers to our town.” Items for sale include children’s and adults’ clothing, furniture, electronics, housewares, home decor, tools, sports equipment, bikes, toys, jewelry, artwork, photography, vintage items, CDs, DVDs, books and more.

The KUEZ has created a special Yard Sale map of both residential and retailer sale locations.

It will be available at several Kearny locations including Town Hall, the Library, and the KUEZ office after May 1.

The map can also be downloaded after May 1 from www. kearnynj.org. The mornings of the Sale (8 a.m. – noon) the map will also be available at a special Yard Sale information table set up in front of Town Hall, 402 Kearny Ave.

A Google map of the sellers (even those who may have missed the deadline to be included in the printed map), will also include information on items for sale at the various locations. This can be accessed after May 1 at https:// goo.g/maps/nuKwc.

Peneda reminds residential participants to keep the sidewalks clear and safe for shoppers and passersby. The KUEZ also has provided a list of organizations and contacts which may be able to help with items not sold during the sale.

For example, Kearny High School PTA is having a clothing drive on May 10 and is collecting clothing, pocketbooks, drapes, blankets, belts, stuffed animals and shoes. If you have any of these items left after the sale call 201-428- 8572.

Other organizations include:

• Goodwill-Harrison, 973- 481-2300

• The Salvation Army, 201- 991-1115

• Vietnam Veterans of  America, 1-800-775-VETS (8387) or www.vva.org. “I invite everyone to enjoy the Town-Wide Yard Sale and to take the opportunity to discover all that Kearny has to offer,” said Peneda. Visit www.kearnynj.org for updates and information or call 201-955-7981.
