From Kearny Mayor Alberto Santos … RE: the snow emergency

The Kearny Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Kearny Police and Fire departments, Kearny Emergency Rescue Squad, Office of Mayor Alberto G. Santos, Town Administrator Michael Martello, the Kearny School District, Kearny Health and Public Works Departments, and the South Kearny Municipal Utilities Authority are preparing for the major winter storm expected to impact the region tonight and tomorrow.  Residents are advised of the following:

1. The Town’s main roadways will take priority, so do not leave parked vehicles on the following streets during the storm or they will be towed Monday evening:

entire length of Kearny Ave;

entire length of Belgrove Drive;

Midland Ave from Belgrove Drive to Schuyler Ave;

south side of Afton St from Belgrove Drive to Passaic Ave;

Davis Ave from Midland to Dukes;

Elm St from Midland Ave to the Belleville Pike; and

Bergen Ave from Passaic Ave to the DPW garage.

2.  The Kearny Municipal Court session for Monday night, Jan. 26, is cancelled.  The special Court session on Tuesday, Jan. 27 is also cancelled. Please call the Court for new dates at (201) 955-7410.

3.  The Kearny Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, is cancelled.

4.  Kearny Senior Bus Transportation and Dial-A-Ride service is suspended until further notice.

5.  Kearny public schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Updates will be posted on www.kearnyschools.com.

4.  Garbage and recycling collection for Tuesday, Jan. 27 is cancelled.  Do not place any items curbside tonight as high winds are expected.

5.  Street sweeping is suspended for the week.

6.  To report downed wires or power outages, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 800-436-PSEG.  You can also report power outages and view the status of an outage by logging in to My Account on pseg.com.  PSE&G offers a number of ways to stay in touch and informed before, during and after a storm. These tools can be found at pseg.com in the “Storm Center,” under “How you can stay connected.”

6. Do not shovel snow on to the street from your sidewalk or driveway.  Do not place any items on the street to save a parking space.  Those items will be removed.

7. Updates will be posted on the Kearny web site at www.kearnynj.org.
