NORTH ARLINGTON –

A contractor was prepping for work on overhead utility lines when his tractor-trailer tipped over, landing on a parked car in front of 460 Ridge Road last Thursday.

Volunteer Fire Chief John Inzinna said that no one was hurt in the mishap but the area was cordoned off for about six hours as personnel from PSE&G and borough Police and Fire Departments all responded to secure the scene.

Additionally, Inzinna said that a representative of the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) came to the location to investigate the circumstances of the accident “to see whether the cause was human or mechanical.”

Inzinna said that Harlan Electric Co., headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., with affiliates in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and Maryland, had been called in as a PSEG sub-contractor, to work on high tension wires.

He said a Harlan employee was operating a crane and cradle boom into position to steady the wires when his truck overturned. North Arlington police and fire units were alerted to the accident at about 8:10 a.m.

Inzinna said the truck’s cab and crane were both heavily damaged in the rough landing and the parked car sustained heavy front end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
