Youth arts association concert is Thursday night in Lyndhurst’s Town Hall Park

The Lyndhurst Youth Performing Arts Association sponsors its second summer event with a free concert Thursday, July 23, 6:30 to 10 p.m., at Town Hall Park, featuring local youth players.

About 100 spectators came out for this season’s kickoff concert June 19 and will follow up this week’s performance with the second annual Woodstock Festival, co-sponsored by A&M Music and owner Alan Maisano, on Aug. 15.

The festival, also held in Town Hall Park, runs from noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

For the Woodstock concert, bands expected to play include Second Reaction, Tony Forte, The Catering Company, Steve Bello Band and Ripped, all interspersed with local youth performers.

Ron Leir has been a newspaperman since the late ’60s, starting his career with The Jersey Journal, having served as a summer reporter during college. He became a full-time scribe in February 1972, working mostly as a general assignment reporter in all areas except sports, including a 3-year stint as an assistant editor for entertainment, features, religion, etc. He retired from the JJ in May 2009 and came to The Observer shortly thereafter. He is also a part-time actor, mostly on stage, having worked most recently with the Kearny-based W.H.A.T. Co. and plays Sunday softball in Central Park, N.Y.
