NA schools update start-of-year procedures

Editor’s note: The following updated press release came to us after the last edition of The Observer was printed. Please disregard the release in print and instead, follow the directives in this one.

The first day of school for North Arlington Public Schools for the 2015-16 school year will be Wednesday, Sept. 9.  Four-hour session days will be held on Sept. 9, 10 and 11.

Elementary Schools

Sept. 9, 10 and 11:  Students are in class from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Lunch will not be served on these half days.)  Beginning Sept. 14, regular hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Lunchtime is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Students may be assigned by their teachers to remedial class and/or homework labs, which will be conducted from 3-3:30 p.m. Children should not arrive at school earlier than five minutes prior to the bell.

The North Arlington Middle School

Sept. 9, 10 and 11:  Students in grades 6 to 8 will be in class from 7:50 a.m. until 11:50 a.m. (Lunch will not be served on these half days.)  Students should not report to school earlier than 10 minutes before the bell. Beginning Sept. 14, the morning bell at the Middle School will ring at 7:50 a.m. and the dismissal bell at 2:20 p.m. Students may be assigned by their teachers to extra help and/or study groups, which will be conducted from 2:20-2:50 p.m.

High School

Sept. 9, 10 and 11: The first bell rings at 7:40 a.m. each morning so students have an opportunity to locate their classes and go to their lockers, upon receiving their locker information.  On Sept. 9, students will report to their homerooms at 7:45 a.m. to pick up their schedules and general information for the school year.

On Sept. 10 and 11, students will report directly to their first period classes that promptly begin at 7:50 a.m.  Lunch will not be served on these half days and students will be dismissed at noon.  Starting Sept. 14 (the first full day), students will follow the regular bell schedule (7:50 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.).  The first bell will ring at 7:40 a.m. and lunch will be available.
