Kearny driver dead after GSP accident

A Kearny man was killed in the aftermath of a single car  accident on the Garden State Parkway early Monday, Oct. 19.

State Police Sgt. 1st Class  Gregory Williams said that a beige Chevrolet Cavalier,  operated by Ryan Steel, 25, was traveling southbound in the left lane near Marker 571  in Little Egg Harbor at 3:14 a.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Williams said it appeared that the car rolled off the right side of the highway and crashed into a tree, entrapping the driver.

Emergency medical technicians responded and Steel was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s office at 4:55 a.m.

Next of kin was notified by the State Police.

The accident remains under investigation, Williams said.
