Alexander L. Davies Sr. 

Alexander L. Davies Sr. died at home on Jan. 2. He was 65.

Born in Govan, Scotland, he lived most of his life in Kearny.

Visiting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Alec is survived by his parents Leslie and Anne (nee Hardie) Davies, and his children Allyson Sexton and Alex Davies, and his grandchildren Andrew, James, Rebecca and Mallory. Also surviving are his brother and sister Leslie and Kimberly (her husband Billy Leahy) Davies and his nieces Paige, Keara and Brooke. Alec was predeceased by his son-in-law Brett Sexton.

Alec was a man full of life and a zeal for fun. He was a member of both the Elks and the Moose lodges. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider voting for any candidate who challenges Hillary Clinton.

Juana Norma Gonzales 

Juana Norma Gonzales, of Harrison, passed away at home after a long battle with cancer on Dec. 29. She was 58.

Funeral services were under the direction of Mulligan Funeral Home, Harrison. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church, East Newark. Her interment took place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Born in Lima, Peru, Juana came to the United States in 1990 where she lived in Newark and Harrison since 1990. She worked as a nurse’s aide for Crane’s Mill Nursing Home in West Caldwell. She loved to go dancing in her free time.

She is survived by her beloved husband Jose Lara, loving son Steven Solis, dear sisters and brothers Maria Neyra, Judith Sikkos, Christina Casanova, Mario, Hector and Luis Gonzales. Richard E. Grierson Sr. 

Richard E. Grierson Sr., of North Bergen, died on Dec. 20. He was 78.

Richard was a builder. He owned REG and S Construction Co. in North Bergen.

He is survived by his loving companion Nery Maldonado along with her family. He was the father of Jackie, Margaret, Cynthia and the late Richard. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Vanessa, Richard, Tiffany, Riley, Maggie and Tyler and four great-grandchildren.

Stella Jacewich 

Stella Jacewich (nee Krynicki), 95, of North Arlington, died Dec. 31 at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in North Arlington for the past 55 years. She was a member of the Rosary Society of Queen of Peace Church and the North Arlington Nutrition Center.

Stella was the beloved wife of the late Frank Jacewich, the devoted mother of Dr. Linda Mary Jacewich , the adored daughter of the late Frances (nee Brozozowska) and Felix Krynicki, the dear sister of the late Harriet Rovito, Sophie Mogilski, Helen Ortiz, Anna Slomin, Philip, Peter, Henry, Joseph and Julia Krynicki and the cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by the Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Road, North Arlington. A funeral Mass was held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, North Arlington. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Frank ‘Stash’ Kuchek 

Frank “Stash” Kuchek, of Harrison, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20. He was 78.

Private funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mulligan Funeral Home, Harrison.

Frank served his country in the United States Navy. Upon the completion of his service, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Newark, until he retired in 1992. He was an active member of the Springfield Elks and Hillside Knights of Columbus #3197. Frank enjoyed the Yankees, Cowboys and Patriots, but above all else, he enjoyed the “Sunshine”.

Frank was predeceased by his parents Francis and Irena Kuchek (nee Kucinska), his sister Barbara and companion Nellie Dolias.

Jorge Luis Lucas 

Jorge Luis Lucas, of Kearny, died at home on Dec. 30. He was 47.

Arrangements were by the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, followed by a private cremation.

Jorge is survived by his loving wife Pierina and loving sons Santiago and Hernan along with brothers and sisters.

Muriel A. Sadowski 

Muriel A. Sadowski passed away peacefully on Dec. 30 surrounded by her loving family. She was 91.

She was born in Newark.

Her arrangements were handled by Thiele-Reid Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Her funeral Mass was held at St. Cecilia’s Church, Kearny, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

She lived most of her life in Harrison before moving to Kearny. She was a member of Holy Cross Rosary Society. She worked for Charles Bessler in Irvington where she met her late husband Charles A. Sadowski.

She was a loving mother to her only daughter Alice Sadowski, loving grandmother to Genevieve Erezuma (Pat), the late Winifred and Charles Fox, Charles M. Sadowski and Nicole Poncio (Jr.), loving great-grandmother of 11 and loving great-great-grandmother of seven.

Jan ‘John’ Sulkowski 

Jan “John” Sulkowski, of Woodbridge, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Jan.2. He was 76.

The funeral will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Harrison, at 10 a.m. Friends may call on Tuesday from 8:45 a.m. Cremation will be private. Born in Debowo, Poland, Jan lived in Piscataway for more than 20 years before moving to Woodbridge over 20 years ago. He was a self-employed industrial painting contractor for over 35 years, retiring in 2010. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Harrison.

In his free time, Jan was very active in the Polish National Home of Harrison. He was the Grand Marshal of the 2008 South Bergen/West Hudson Pulaski Parade, as well as being a member of the Polish Pulaski Club and its Parade Committee.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jadwiga (married 20 years), loving children, Tom Sulkowski and his wife Lisa and Monica Rockswold and her husband, Cody, dear step-children, Tomek Milanski and Zaneta Milanska, seven grandchildren, cherished siblings, Jerry, Mark and Kathy Sulkowski as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvia K. Thompson 

Sylvia K. “Sibbi” Thompson (nee Coffin), 69, of Barnegat, passed away, after a nine-year battle with leukemia, on Dec. 30 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, surrounded by her family.

Sibbi was born in Schuylerville, N.Y., and was formerly of Kearny before moving to Barnegat in 2012. She had worked for Mayer Berkshire as a men’s clothing buyer until 2006. She loved to bake and cook but her greatest passion was her family.

Sibbi’s family would like to thank the Critical Care Unit at SOMC and the transplant and oncology team at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jack; her two children, Noël and her husband Earl Anderson and Joshua Thompson; one grandson, Cole Anderson; and her siblings Dorothy Sussman, John and James Coffin. She is also survived by many loving family and friends.

Arrangements were by Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home 335 S. Main Street (Rt. 9), Barnegat. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 4, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 4700 West Bay Ave., Barnegat. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to John Theurer Cancer Center, Attn: Sharon Lee Parker, 92 Second St., Hackensack, N.J. 07601 in Sylvia’s memory.
