Celebration of Italian heritage highlights Columbus Day

A portion of the parking lot at the Lyndhurst Town Centre mall on Valley Brook Ave. was turned into a carnival Saturday as part of a Columbus Day celebration of Italian heritage. From 4 to 10 p.m., kids and adults frolicked and feasted at the event, sponsored by Mr. Bruno’s restaurant. That’s the eatery’s owner, Lenny Livreri (2nd from r.), with a portrait of the Great Navigator. Also shown in that photo are (from l.) Mayor Peter Massa of North Arlington, Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso, and Lou Stellato, chairman of the Bergen County Democratic Committee. Giangeruso also is pictured with a surprise guest, Sen. Robert Menendez. The mayor said this was the first of what is planned as an annual celebration, along with others throughout the year to honor various cultures and heritages.
