A dispute between a cabbie and a rider over the amount of the fare brought police to Kingsland Ave. and Ridge Road at 1:19 a.m.
Police ended up charging the passenger, Richard Panetta, 33, of Lyndhurst, with disorderly conduct, possession of drugs, namely, marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released him pending a court appearance.
Police said Panetta did pay the fare.
Oct. 3
Police responded to a fuel oil spill from a tractor trailer at 6:21 a.m. at Schuyler and Ten Eyck Aves.
Police said the tractor trailer driver, a resident of Knox, Pa., was trying to back into a driveway when the truck rolled over a tree belt and four metal poles sticking out of the ground in front of a resident’s home. The contact between the poles and truck ruptured the vehicle’s oil tank, causing diesel fuel to leak out onto the road.
Bergen County HazMat and the state Dept. of Environmental Protection responded and the resident was instructed to pay for a private company to come in and handle the cleanup effort.
The roadway was closed to traffic for several hours while the oil slick was dealt with, police said.
Police issued the driver a summons for careless driving for driving off the roadway but also ticketed the resident, Quintilina Carrasco, 56, of Lyndhurst, for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief in posing a hazard to traffic.

A woman accused of trying to sneak out merchandise from a local supermarket was found to be carrying other, more troubling items as well, according to police.
Police said they were called to the ShopRite on New York Ave. at 5:15 p.m. by security personnel who had detained a customer they alleged had tried to walk out of the store with $10 worth of miscellaneous items without paying.
Melissa Salermo, 32, of Warren, was issued a summons charging her with shoplifting. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police said officers found she had some wax folds typically used to package illegal drugs.
She was released after being told to report for a court hearing on the charges.

Sometimes, apparently, it doesn’t pay to advertise.
Such was the case for a Ridgefield Park resident who told police he’d parked his 2000 Mercury in the ShopRite parking lot and, upon returning at 6:14 p.m., discovered that someone had removed magnetic signs promoting a business from the door of his vehicle.
Sept. 29
An out-of-town motorist earned the ire of police after police said he was clocked going 41 mph in a 25 mph zone along Polito Ave. at 2:30 a.m.
Rawley Ryan, 23, of Carlstadt, was ticketed for speeding and DWI.
Ryan’s vehicle was impounded and he was released pending a court appearance.
