The Belleville Veterans Day parade will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. All area civic organizations, dignitaries, Belleville/Nutley Police Departments, Belleville/Nutley Municipal Fire and Safety Organizations, Belleville/Nutley Public School principals and students, Essex County High School Bands and motorcycle clubs and classic/ antique car clubs are invited to attend and participate.

Bloomfield

The Bloomfield Public Library is partnering with the Blood Center of NJ to host a blood drive on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Blood Center of NJ has established the Library “Save a Life” Recognition Award. For a library that sponsors a blood drive during the year, if the library has 30 or more donations, then the library will receive a $300 “Save a Life” Recognition award; if it has 40 or more donations, then the library will receive a $350 “Save a Life” Recognitionaward; if it has 50 or more donations, then the library will receive a $400 “Save a Life” Recognition award. For each additional 10 donations, the “Save a Life” Recognition Award will be increased by $50.

Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center is offering a dinner and theatre trip package to see the new Broadway hit “Matilda,” based on Roald Dahl’s book on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Participants will enjoy a buffet brunch at the Oakeside Mansion starting at 11:30 a.m, before boarding a bus to New York City, directly to the theatre.

The cost of the trip is $142 per person and includes brunch, round-trip bus transportation, front mezzanine seats, and all taxes and tips.

Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center will host “Grape Adventures – A Wine-tasting Event” on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m.

Just in time for holiday entertaining, the evening will feature experts offering advice and answering questions about selecting wines and pairing them with your favorite foods. Guests will sample fine wines from around the world and enjoy tasty hors d’ouevres. The cost is $30 per person.

Harrison

Harrison Public Library is offering a baby and toddler music class for children up to 3-years-old and an accompanying parent. Come sing and play with your child in the library’s children’s room, located in the lower level of the library on Nov. 10 and 17 at 11 a.m. (30 to 45 minute class), with future dates to be announced. Harrison Cancer League is taking orders for its annual Thanksgiving pie sale. All orders must be received by Wednesday, Nov. 14. The sale features fresh-baked pies by Harvest House Brick Oven Bakery, with your choice of apple, cherry, blueberry, lemon meringue, three berry, peach, key lime, pumpkin and coconut custard. The Harrison Cancer League is conducting a toy drive for the Valerie Fund, which works with children and young people, infants to age 21, who have been diagnosed with cancer and are undergoing treatment. Kearny

First Baptist Church of Arlington, 650 Kearny Ave., Kearny presents Family Comedy Night, featuring the DVD of Christian comedian John Gray, on Friday, Oct. 26. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the event starts at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided.

Presbyterian Boys-Girls Club, 663 Kearny Ave., Kearny will have its annual Halloween dance on Friday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. Prizes will be given to the best dancers. Guests are restricted to teenagers only. The dance will be supervised by members of the Board of Directors.

The Kearny American Legion Auxiliary welcomes all to the first annual pre- Election Day Pig Roast on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Post 99, 314 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Kearny Museum, 318 Kearny Ave., will host a performance by local entertainer and singer Karen Luschar on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.

The Kearny Museum has newly updated displays and exhibits featuring new historic pictures of the Kearny Schools; an updated exhibit of Kearny Mayors; and a beautiful model of the USS Fletcher, which had its keel laid in Kearny’s own Federal Shipyards. Light refreshments will also be served.

The Lyndhurst Public Library is once again collecting winter/fall coats, clothing, and shoes for people in need. All sizes from adult to infant. The Meadowlands Environment Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst, will host “Family Science Night: Astounding Adaptations” for families of children and young adults with special learning needs on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Participants will investigate movement, protection and feeding simulations that include live animal interaction, tool manipulation and cooperative work. This program is an extension of the center’s MarshAccess program for students with disabilities. Admission is $5; $4 for MEC members. Children will study live and preserved animals and use watercolor pencils to draw and paint their amazing shapes, colors and textures. Take-home art supplies (with an easy clean-up) are included. The Lyndhurst High School Class of 2013 and the LHS World Language Honor Society are sponsoring a Children’s Tricky Tray for children in grades Pre-K through 4. This event will be held at the Senior Citizen Building on Cleveland Ave. in Lyndhurst on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at noon. They will start calling numbers promptly at 1 p.m.

The cost of admission is $5. Children as well as their parents will require an admission ticket. This price will include a full sheet of tickets for the small prize category. There will be three categories of prizes and those tickets can be purchased upon arrival. Food and drinks will also be served. Therefore, outside food will not be allowed.

North Arlington

The North Arlington Woman’s Club third annual pasta dinner and raffle will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the North Arlington Senior Center (behind library and Borough Hall). Nutley Parks and Recreation Department announces that CPR and AED training will be available. Two classes are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, in Room 201 in the Recreation Department, 44 Park Ave.: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The fee is $65 per student. Class size is limited.

The League of Women Voters asked candidates for the Nutley Board of Education to provide a 125 word biography and answer the following two questions in 175 words: “What compelling issue(s) do you foresee in the near future and how would you handle them?” And: “Why did you decide to be a candidate for the Board of Education at this time?” Their responses are included in the Voters Guide, a voter education guide published by the League of Women Voters of the Nutley Area. The Voters Guide is available for review on the Internet at www.lwvna.org and at the Nutley Public Library, 93 Booth Drive,. Publication of the Voters Guide is a free service of the LWVNA.

Nutley Department of Public Affairs is hosting a free “Morning at the Movies” for Nutley families and senior citizens.

“Yankee Doodle Dandy,” starring James Cagney, will be shown on Saturday, Nov. 3. Doors open at 9 a.m. the John H. Walker Middle School cafeteria. Refreshments will be served. The movie will begin at 10 a.m.

In addition the VFW Women’s Auxiliary will be sponsoring a craft fair in the cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Online registration is open for pumpkin painting at Nutley Public library. The program is set for Thursday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. This program is limited to Nutley and BCCLS patrons due to high demand.

Nutley Library will host a Zombie Extravaganza: Halloween Zombie Night for Teens on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required but you must be in grades 7 to 12 to attend. Participate in the Zombie poetry contest, zombie Karaoke, zombie cupcakes, zombie make-up demos, best-dressed zombie contest, zombie games and a mummy contest.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, Rigid Plastic Recycling Day wiil be held at the Greenutley Farmers Market in Municipal Parking Lot #1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your rigid, bulky plastics such as garbage cans, laundry baskets, milk crates, plastic piping, cones, helmets, buckets, storage containers, pet carriers, plastic coolers, resin lawn furniture, oversized plastic toys and backyard play houses. This is a chance to dispose of such items in an environmentally responsible way.
