Police stopped a vehicle that, they said, was accelerating quickly and traveling at an excessive speed at 3:17 a.m. at Ridge Road and Rutherford Avenue. A computer check revealed that the driver, Nazim Rizack, 23, of Paterson, was wanted on outstanding warrants from Paterson, Fairfield and Fairlawn and he was arrested. He was issued summons charging him with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, careless driving and driving while suspended.

At 9:47 p.m. police said they pulled over Brandan Kiley, 36, of Mendham, after they said he made an improper U-turn at Orient Way and Third Avenue. Kiley was issued summonses charging him with DWI and careless driving.

Police said an 87-year-old Lyndhurst woman was the victim of a suspected theft by deception. The woman was approached in a New York Avenue parking lot by a man who offered to sell her a computer chip that, he claimed, would fix an alleged defect in her vehicle. Police said the woman agreed to purchase the item and was escorted by the man to her bank where she withdrew $1,400 and gave the cash to the man for the chip. That night, police said, the woman related the incident to her son, who realized she’d been scammed and called the police. The scammer was described as white, between 40 and 50, about 5-feet-nine and 200 pounds, police said.

At 9:11 a.m. the operator of a Thumann’s delivery truck called police to report that someone had removed the batteries from the compartment of his 1983 International vehicle while it was parked in the 100 block of Park Avenue. Police said the batteries were valued at $400.

Shortly before midnight, police stopped a vehicle traveling south on Orient Way after seeing it crossing the double yellow line in the road. Police issued the driver, Brian Healy, 31, of North Arlington, summonses charging him with failure to maintain a lane and DWI and impounded the vehicle.
