Highlights from the Nutley Police blotter

Jan. 4

At 8:33 a.m. police responded to a Washington Ave. home whose resident griped someone scratched their car’s hood while it was parked in the driveway and apparently took some cash and earrings from the vehicle.

Jan. 3

A police detective who was on the road at 1:33 p.m. spotted a man walking in the middle of the street at Rutgers Place and North Road who then walked to the front of a house and allegedly urinated on the lawn. Police said the man, Eric Dotoli, 24, of Nutley, was charged with lewdness. Dotoli, who had two outstanding warrants from Wyckoff for $2,000, was turned over to Wyckoff PD.

At 12:36 a.m. an activated alarm brought police to a Franklin Ave. business where they found an unlocked door in the rear of the building which, after checking with the manager, appeared to be an oversight. Inside, nothing was disturbed, police said.

Jan. 1

An irate Bloomfield Ave. homeowner called police at 11:33 a.m. to complain that during the night, someone had removed the Christmas decorations from the front lawn and tossed them onto their vehicle, parked in the driveway, causing scratches to the vehicle’s hood.

At 1:52 a.m. a neighbor’s complaint resulted in police visiting a Bloomfield Ave. location on a report of a fight. Upon arrival, police said they found two brothers “horsing around.” After checking for any outstanding warrants, police said they learned that one brother, Bryant Evangelista, 23, of Paterson, had an active warrant from Little Falls. He was arrested and then released pending a new court date.

Dec. 31

Police responded to a Stager St. residence at 11:40 p.m. on a report of prior criminal mischief. The resident told police someone damaged one ornamental reindeer on his front lawn and stole another one.

At 2:01 p.m. police received a report of a burglary to a vehicle parked on E. Centre St. Police said the car’s side door lock was damaged, as was the glove box inside. Nothing was believed to be taken. Earlier, at 8:41 a.m., police received “multiple calls” about autos being burglarized on E. Centre St. Police said all the vehicles had their driver’s side doors damaged and an iPad was removed from one vehicle. Nothing was apparently taken from the other vehicles but the door locks on those vehicles were all damaged and one handle had been ripped off the car, police said.
