KEARNY –
Police are investigating a pair of overnight burglaries at two Kearny Ave. businesses last week.
Police Chief John Dowie said the thieves gained access to Mace Bros. electronics store and a small café on the 500 block sometime between closing time June 15 and the morning of June 16. In both cases, the criminals entered through a bathroom window.
From the café, they took a small amount of cash and a flat-screen television. From Mace Bros, they stole another TV and six laptop computers.
Officer T.J. Hernandez was the original investigating officer on the scene. Dets. John Plaugic and Bryant Obie are conductng the follow-up probes.
In other news from the Kearny PD blotter:
On June 10, shortly after 5 p.m., Officer Dean Gasser responded to Walmart, where a shoplifter attempted to steal four bottles of Nyquil and eight packs of gum. While that may seem to be a relatively minor offense, the suspect, a 44-year-old Newark man, was found to be wanted on six Kearny warrants and one each from Newark, Bloomfield and North Caldwell. He was remanded to the Hudson County Jail.
