Giuseppe Bozzone

Giuseppe Bozzone entered into eternal rest on July 3. He was 77.

Born in Santomenna, Italy, he has lived in Kearny for the past 45 years.

Giuseppe was a hard working family man who provided a wonderful life for his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved his summers at Greenwood Lake.

Giuseppe is a retired mechanic from NJ Transit and was a member of The S.S. Cosmo and Damiano Society.

He is survived by his wife Maria (nee Brattoli), his children and their spouses Emil and Diane Bozzone, Anthony and Minerva Bozzone, Maria and Oscar Costa and Giulio and Jackie Bozzone. Also surviving are his grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly, Brian Giuseppe, Anthony, Marisa, Oscar, Maria, Danielle, Joseph, Joseph, Giulio and Chyanne and his great-granddaughter Leah.

Mary Cassidy

Mary Cassidy (nee Galiano) died on July 6 in St. Michael’s Medical Center. She was 77.

Born in Harrison, she lived most of her life in Kearny.

Visiting will be on Tuesday, July 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. Mass is Tuesday at 9:30 am in St. Stephens Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. To leave online condolence please visit www.armitagewiggins.com.

Mary was a retired customer service representative for Verizon and prior to that she was a secretary at RCA.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia LaPola (and son in law Richard), Joanne Cassidy and Karen Mackenzie, her sister Elena Burke and her grandchildren Genevieve, Cassidy, Richard, Michael, Connor and Kyle.

Maryanne Galway

Maryanne Galway (nee Steffens) passed away on July 3 at Sunset Beach in North Carolina. She was 55.

Born in Hoboken, she lived in Kearny and Point Pleasant before moving to North Carolina in 1995.

Maryanne was active with St. Matthew’s Church and was an attendance clerk for The Fort Mills Board of Education.

She is the cherished daughter of Robert and Marie (nee McGowan) Steffens, beloved wife of Edward Galway and loving mother to Laura Norrell (Johannes) and Kristen Galway. Sister of Robert and Paul Steffens and Leslie Florio, she also leaves her cherished grandson Alexander and many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Robert F. Massey

Dr. Robert F. Massey died on June 27 in the Hackensack University Medical Center. He was 70.

Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Santa Barbara, Calif., he met and married his wife in Chicago, Ill., before they moved to New York. They lived the past 33 years in Kearny.

Private viewing was held at Welch Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels, 15 East Sola St., in Santa Barbara. A funeral Mass was held on July 5 at Old Mission Santa Barbara with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.armitagewiggins.com.

Dr. Massey was a professor at Seton Hall University where he directed the doctoral program in family psychology and the master’s and post master’s marriage and therapy program.

He graduated from St. Anthony Seminary High School in Santa Barbara and San Luis Rey College. He received his master’s from North Eastern Illinois State College and his Ph.D. from the graduate center of the City University in New York.

Dr. Massey is survived by his wife Dr. Sharon Davis Massey, his children and their spouses Sarah Massey Zacharias and Brian and Jonathan Robert Massey and Liz. Also surviving are his grandchildren Tyler and Savannah.

Ann McCartin

Ann McCartin (nee Bartolazzi) died on July 4 at the Waterview Nursing Center in Cedar Grove. She was 88.

Born in Newark, she lived many years in Kearny before moving to Lyndhurst 13 years ago.

Arrangements were by the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home. 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. The funeral service was held in the funeral home, followed by a private cremation.

Ann is a retired cafeteria worker from North Arlington High School.

Ann is the mother of Tricia Czech, Anita N. (Glenn) Costa, Richard Triano and the late Barbara Muller. Sister of Adeline Manley, she is also survived by seven grand and six great-grandchildren.

Gloria P. Ness

Gloria P. Ness (nee Prior) passed away at her home on July 6, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88.

Born in Newark, she lived many years in Kearny before moving to Surf City (Long Beach Island) 20 years ago.

Visiting will be on Tuesday, July 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. Service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. To leave an online condolence please visit www.armitagewiggins.com.

She was an account buyer for Bambergers.

Gloria, a proud Republican, a very active citizen and frequently voiced her opinions at public forums to advance the quality of life and function of government for all. She was The Jersey Journal 1983 Woman of Achievement. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and helped to co-found The West Hudson South Bergen Sheltered Workshop.

Wife of John “Jack” T. Ness, she is also survived by her daughters Deborah Rose and Barbara Bozza. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Keith Rose and her beloved granddaughter Heather.

Kenneth Brian Stanley

Kenneth Brian Stanley, 52, of East Newark, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 4, surrounded by his loving family in St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark. Born in Newark, Ken lived most of his life in East Newark.

He was an accounts payable manager for The Children’s Place, Secaucus, for the last six years. Prior to that, he worked as a dispatcher for the East Newark Police Department.

He is survived by his loving son, Steven, his devoted mother, Susan (Smith) Stanley, beloved brothers, Frank and David Stanley and his wife, Allison. Dear Uncle of Christopher Henry, Jenna, Ashley and David Stanley, he was predeceased by his aunt, Anna Smith (2002) whom he lived with and cared for. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were under the direction of the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave, Harrison. A funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross Church in Harrison.
