Post 99 team christens Franklin School Field

For the last two summers, many of Kearny’s aspiring baseball players had no place to play.
The long-standing American Legion Post 99 program had been halted for a host of reasons.
But thanks to the efforts of some dedicated baseball men, the program returned this summer and the Post 99 team was the one to officially christen the newly refurbished Franklin School Field on Sunday with two games against Park Ridge and Wayne-Pompton Lakes.
“It’s been great,” said Nick Edwards, a Kearny school district teacher who coaches both football and junior varsity baseball at the high school. “It’s a great experience for me, coaching where I teach but I absolutely want to be able to help the kids of Kearny learn more about the game of baseball. They can enjoy the game and learn about discipline as well.”
