Police received reports of two vehicles being stolen and a third tampered with.
At 12:03 p.m., the owner of a 2010 Nissan Maxima called police to say that he’d parked his car on Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. South on Nov. 14 and when he returned, two days later, at noon, it was gone.
The owner of a 2008 black Cadillac Escalade told police he’d parked his car in the Franklin Ave. municipal lot at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and when he returned at 4:45 a.m. the next day, he discovered it had vanished.
And, at 7:41 a.m., a patrol officer saw a 2003 Cadillac Escalade, parked at Harrison and Davis Aves., with its driver’s side window smashed. Further checking revealed that it had a broken shift lever. Police notified the owner who told them he’d parked the car on the north side of Harrison Ave. at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 15. Nothing appeared to be missing from the car, police said.
Nov. 14
At 5 p.m., police received a report from a representative of a First St. shipping company that sometime between the time the company received a shipment of laptop computers on Nov. 13 and the next afternoon, one of the computers, valued at $298, was stolen.
Nov. 13
Police responded to a home burglary report in the 100 block of Cross St. The occupant told police that when she got home at 4:30 p.m., she noticed the rear exit door was open and all the bedrooms ransacked. She said that a window air-conditioner, which apparently had been pushed out of one of the bedrooms, was found in an outside alleyway, along with a 2-foot aluminum stepladder that the intruder probably used to gain entry. Canvassing the area, police were told by a neighbor that he’d seen a man he described as Hispanic, wearing dark clothing, weighing about 180 pounds, leaving the building earlier in the day carrying a flat panel TV on his shoulder, walking north on N. Third St. Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call the HPD Detective Bureau at 973-483-4100.
Nov. 12
At 11:30 a.m., a Sixth St. resident called police to report a theft. The resident said she’d ordered two items from an internet company that were expected to arrive Nov. 6 but never got them. She said the Postal Service told her the delivery was made. Police said unknown persons reportedly removed the packages from the resident’s porch when they were delivered.
Nov. 11
At 9 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Hamilton St. on a report of criminal mischief. Police noticed that the residence’s rear window had been punctured by two pellets which were inside the window between the double pane glass. – Ron Leir
