To the Publisher:
I write regarding your May 25 article concerning the charges against Rev. James J. Reilly, former pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows.
An archdiocesan audit in November revealed discrepancies in parish funds in excess of $75,000, whereupon archdiocesan officials immediately notified the Hudson County prosecutor’s office.
Following the revelation of the clergy sex scandal, years passed and innumerable children were sexually molested and psychologically devastated, yet no reports were made to the legal authorities, but let $75,000 go missing, and the righteous “do the right thing” mentality of the Archdiocese suddenly surfaces.
Are moral priorities and ethics called into play only when dollar signs are involved?
