Michael J. DeNigris

Michael J. DeNigris died on May 19 in The Care One at Wellington. He was 69. Born in Orange, he was a lifelong Kearny resident.

Arrangements were by the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral Mass was held in Sacred Heart Church, in Lyndhurst, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.armitagewiggins.com

Michael was an accountant for AOL Time Warner in New York City.

He is survived by his dear companion Irene Ungar and his loving family Linda and Robert Tweedus, Michael and Christina Ungar and Edward Trampler, along with their children.

John G. Nelson

John G. Nelson, 86, of Kearny died at home on May 21.

Mr. Nelson was a teacher at Kearny High School for 25 years, retiring in 1992. Before that he worked at various management positions with RCA for 22 years until their closing.

He served in the Army during World War II with Patton’s Third Army in Normandy, France. During the Battle of Metz, he was captured by the Germans in 1944. The Russian Army released him in 1945. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, The Bronze Star, The Purple Heart and The Victory Medal.

After leaving RCA, he went back to school and received a degree in teaching from the former Montclair State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude at the age of 48.

He is the beloved husband of Rachel Conlan Nelson for 61 years. He is the father of Gordon Nelson, Lori Azevedo and the late Sharon Laugel; grandfather of Jeffry and Courtney Laugel and Jessica, Philip and Allison Azevedo; great-grandfather of Noah Tarry.

Services will be private under the direction of Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny.

Caryn Veasey

Former Kearny resident Caryn Veasey, 59, died on May 16 at her home in Woodland Hills, Calif.

At her request, no service will be held.

Caryn was born on May 18, 1952 in Kearny, to Joyce and Edward Veasey. She moved to California in 1974.

She is survived by her loving family husband Doug Dowie, son Brendan, daughter Shannon, sisters Brenda Santa and Joyce Veasey, brothers Jay and Edward Veasey and nephew Nicholas Veasey. Her joy in life was her children.

A memorial service is scheduled in California on June 2 and in New Jersey sometime in July.

Mark Alday

Mark Alday, 32 passed away suddenly on Monday, April 9.

A burial at noon of his cremains was held on Saturday, June 2, at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
