Kearny has first COVID-19 death, Health Department says

The Town of Kearny has suffered its first COVID-19 fatality.

The town announced the death on Monday, March 23, though specifics were not listed for HIPAA concerns.

As of now, Kearny has six lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. Three others who have connections to Kearny have also tested positive.

According to the town:

“We were notified of one new positive case on March 23, 2020.  The individual traveled to South America on March 6, 2020. On his return, the individual started feeling symptomatic. The individual continued to work and go out during the symptomatic period, but wore an N95 mask and gloves. The individual has recovered and the last day of quarantine is today.”

Meanwhile, for the first time in history, the Mayor and Council will meet tonight virtually. You can watch and/or participate in the Zoom meeting by logging on to www.zoom.us/j/336094686 tonight, Tuesday, March 24, at 7 p.m. It might be wise, however, to log on a little earlier so as to avoid any technical glitches that might affect the meeting.
